La Huella OVNI: What is the SETI Project?
The SETI project is on a mission to search for intelligent life beyond our world. Here, we explain a bit about it.

- Jorge Luis Sucksdorf talks about the SETI Project.
- People often talk about the search for other beings in the universe.
- What is this project about?
The SETI Project looks for signs of life from other planets using radio signals.
Since the 1970s, it has used big antennas to search different parts of space for signs that there might be smart life beyond Earth.
Many people, including the storyteller, like the idea of looking for life in space.
When looking into UFOs, the storyteller was really interested in finding life on other planets. Damián Lobo talks about the SETI Project in a question.
What the SETI Project does

The project watches space using big antennas, and listens for signals from hydrogen, which is everywhere in space.
The «Wow signal» from 1977 is one reason this project started. It was a strange radio sound heard for a little bit in Ohio, USA. No one knows what it was or has heard it again.
The big challenge is how big space is.
For example, the Wow sound came from a direction in space far, far away.
Other kinds of life

This means any sign we hear could be very old. This also goes for sounds from Earth, like ones from space probes, trying to reach far away life.
Thinking about time and space shows how big and strange the universe is.
The thought that we might get answers back, even a long, long time from now, makes the search for smart life in space more exciting.
Even though we are tiny compared to the universe, we hope to find other life.
Looking for other life

Some big antennas that used to work with SETI don’t now, but many still do all over the world.
These tools keep listening to the sky for signs of other smart life.
To sum it up, the SETI Project shows how curious people are about space and life somewhere else.
Jorge Luis ends by saying that even if we haven’t heard a clear sign from space, we keep trying because we want to know more and answer a big question: Are we the only ones here?
